The 'Natural Ontology' Project

A research programme by Chris Dörge & Matthias Holweger (represented in the version of the former)

This site is presently under development.

The central issue of metaphysic is the question of which entities exist and which do not--ontology and meta-ontology.

It is natural to study the question of which entities exist and which do not by means of the discussion and application of criteria of existence.

On this website we represent the development of a research programme called "Natural Ontology".

Natural Ontology (a) presupposes that the application of criteria of existence is the natural way of studying existence questions. It (b) suggests that meta-ontology ought to discuss and ontology ought to apply criteria of existence.

The programme particularly includes the statement defence and development of criteria of existence--some which have already been established; but also some which are as yet not established

The discussion and application of criteria of existence has repeatedly been questioned. We defend it against doubts.
